PESHAWAR: Government has announced a public holiday for 1st Muharram.
KPK Peshawar Goverment has announced a public holiday for 1st Muharram.

According to a notification issued by the Department of Administrative Affairs, a public holiday will be observed on the 1st of Muharram, subject to the moon sighting as announced by the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee.
The notification further stated that all government offices, educational institutions, and commercial establishments will remain closed on this day.

Muharram, the first month of the Islamic lunar calendar, holds profound religious significance in Islam. The 1st of Muharram is also observed as Youm-e-Umar, commemorating the martyrdom of Hazrat Umar ibn al-Khattab (RA), the second Caliph of Islam, who was assassinated on this day in 23 AH (644 CE).
Additionally, Ashura, observed on the 10th of Muharram, marks the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain ibn Ali (RA), along with his family and companions, during the tragic Battle of Karbala.
