How Did Iran Build Hypersonic Missiles Capable of Reaching Israel Despite Global Sanctions?
Between Friday and Saturday night, Iran launched Hypersonic missile attacks on Israel, an operation it named Wa’ad-e-Sadeq 3

Hypersonic missile strikes came in response to Israeli attacks earlier on Friday targeting Iran’s nuclear facilities and military installations. Those Israeli strikes reportedly resulted in the deaths of top Iranian military leaders, members of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), and prominent scientists.
In a statement issued Friday night, the Israeli military confirmed, “Iran has launched multiple Hypersonic missiles toward Israel. The public is advised to remain in secure locations until further notice.”
Following this announcement, sirens were heard across various Israeli cities. According to the Persian, plumes of smoke were seen around the tall buildings of Tel Aviv.
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claims it fired over 100 missiles at Israel, while the Israeli military reports that the number was lower than 100.
The Israel Defence Forces (IDF) stated that most of the incoming missiles were intercepted by its air defence systems. However, despite these claims, footage and images emerging from Israel show visible signs of destruction.
So far, the Iranian strikes have resulted in the deaths of two people and injured dozens more.
It’s worth noting that this is not the first time Iran has launched missile attacks on Israel. Similar incidents occurred on October 1 and April 13, 2024.
During those previous attacks, Iranian ballistic missiles and drones targeted various locations across Israel, including an airbase.
A researcher at the Stimson Centre and former director of NATO’s Arms Control Program commented at the time that Iran’s recent strikes had fundamentally altered the dynamics of the Middle East.
It’s important to note that Iran’s missile program, which laid the foundation for these recent attacks, has developed at a remarkable pace over the past several decades. The Iranian government places such confidence in the program’s precision that these missiles are often referred to as “pointers” due to their ability to strike targets with high accuracy.
As a result, this missile program has long posed a serious concern not only for Western countries and Israel but also for several Arab nations in the Middle East.
So what exactly is this missile program? What types of missiles does Iran possess, and what is their range? And how has Iran managed to develop such an advanced missile capability despite facing severe international sanctions?
