Sony is getting ready to pick a fight with Samsung’s 200MP sensors
Sony is gearing up to challenge Samsung’s 200MP camera sensor market dominance. According to a Chinese tipster, Sony is working on a 200MP camera sensor for smartphones, rumoured to be larger than Samsung’s current offerings. At present, Samsung is the leading brand providing 200MP camera sensors for smartphones, with many manufacturers, particularly Chinese brands, widely adopting them. This has allowed Samsung to maintain a near-monopoly in this segment. However, Sony, the Japanese tech giant, is poised to become a formidable competitor.
Digital Chat Station reports that Sony’s upcoming 200MP sensor will reportedly surpass Samsung’s largest sensor, which measures 1/1.3 inches. If this claim holds, Samsung’s ISOCELL 200MP cameras could lose their competitive edge in the market.

The tipster suggests that Sony plans to use this new sensor in the main cameras of its flagship smartphones, expected to launch later this year. Additionally, Sony is likely to offer the sensor to other smartphone brands. Given Chinese manufacturers’ constant pursuit of cutting-edge technology, they may switch from Samsung’s ISOCELL 200MP sensors to Sony’s if it proves to be more advanced.
To stay competitive in the 200MP camera sensor race, Samsung may need to introduce new models with larger sensor sizes. If you’re considering a smartphone with a 200MP camera, the Galaxy S25 Ultra could be a great option. Check out the link below for the best deals on it.
